Victorian Fete

One of the main attractions of Oamaru is her Victorian Heritage and Whitestone Buildings. In summer the locals spill out into town in their Victorian Costumes and penny farthings (olden bicycles with a huge wheel in front and a tiny wheel at the back) to exciting parades and fairs. There was the Heritage Parade, Christmas Parade and Victorian Fete.

Victorian Fete
Its like a Victorian Pasar Malam really except that its during the day and there are no pirated DVDs on sale. Most of the locals were decked out in Victorian costumes with their parasols and poofy skirts. There were street performers, bands, food, stalls selling all sorts of stuff.  It was a really hot day and I had heaps of fun!

Mayor Alex Familton and his wife in Victorian

Wheel of Fortune. This is a real money making scheme. You buy some numbers, spin the wheel a couple of times and see who gets the draw.

The people here are generally biggish. I feel like I belong! Haha....  not that I want to........

The parade started at about 1030am to 430pm. By 6pm when we had a drive around, there was not a rubbish bin nor prob nor stage in sight. It was as though nothing ever happened. Cool.
